Golden cracks, big conversations: Dobby on World Alzheimer's Day
Today is World Alzheimer's Day. A day to pause for a moment, but above all, to get moving. Dobby, the turquoise duck with golden kintsugi cracks, is my favorite guide: he makes dementia visible, gentle, and open to discussion.
Why Dobby?
Dobby wears a gold crack on his head. These cracks don't need to be hidden; they tell a story that deserves to be seen. Kintsugi, repairing with gold, demonstrates that your value doesn't disappear when cracks appear. This is precisely how we view people with dementia: you are more than you forget.
What we are doing today
We invite everyone to a golden memory To share. This can be done with a photo, a few sentences, or something creative. Dobby helps to lovingly open that conversation. Forgetting is okay, but so is celebrating memories.
The Dobby House: creative center
At the Dobby House we work with creative activities that connect with what is possible. We have more than forty Working methods that bring peace, enjoyment, and connection. In November, we'll launch a pilot program for people with early-stage dementia. Small-scale, warm, and personalized.
Why creativity?
Creativity is a safe place. It doesn't have to be "good" or "finished."
In color and material, people often find words that weren't there before. This way, an afternoon becomes more than just a pastime: it becomes a rediscovery of individuality.
“Forgetting is allowed, but you are not alone.”
