Something special happened yesterday at the Dobby House. A group of dementia case managers came by to meet Dobby, not just as an art object, but especially as a symbol, a conversation tool, and a source of inspiration.
After a brief introduction to the Dobby House, the Dobby Method, the Dobby Memory Book, and the Dobby booklets, it was time to do what Dobby stands for: experiencing creativity. Because sometimes a brushstroke is worth a thousand words.
Everyone got their own blank Dobby to paint. Away from protocols and files, just playing with color and shape. The result? Fantastic, unique Dobbies, each with its own story, each a reflection of its creator. And more importantly: it sparked fun, connection, and a wealth of new ideas.
Painting is, of course, just one of the many possibilities. The Dobbyhuis offers more than forty different creative activities for people with early-stage dementia. From painting and drawing to storytelling, experiencing music, and building something together. There's always something to suit someone's talent or interest.
And this is just the beginning. In November, we'll launch a pilot program at the Dobby House, specifically for people with early-stage dementia. We're really looking forward to welcoming them, painting together, sharing memories, and discovering what's still possible.
Dobby shows: forgetting is allowed, but you are not alone.
